Mechanical engineering professional Avi Polischuk is the owner of mechanical engineering firm R&S United Services, the company his father established. After his father’s passing, Avi Polischuk created the Fred Polischuk Memorial Fund to honor his legacy.

The Fred Polischuk Memorial Fund was established in 2014 to pay tribute to R&S United Services founder Fred Polischuk, who succumbed to heart disease in 2013. The fund makes scholarships available to the children of R&S employees, allowing them to achieve their dreams in higher education.

In 2014, just one scholarship was awarded. Since then, the fund has grown thanks to industry partnerships and many donations. It is now able to provide several scholarships each year, helping even more young people pay for their schooling.

Scholarship applicants must submit their resumes and a list of their notable accomplishments along with a special essay. Winners are selected on Fred Polischuk’s birthday – May 30 – each year. To learn more about the Fred Polischuk Memorial Fund or learn how to apply, visit www.fpmsf.org.

A mechanical engineering graduate of George Washington University, Avi Polischuk has more than 15 years of experience as the president and owner of R&S United Services. Avi Polischuk and his company support charitable organizations such as the Cooley’s Anemia Foundation (CAF).

The nonprofit CAF was established in 1954 by Frank Ficarra, whose children were afflicted by the rare genetic blood disorder thalassemia, also known as Cooley’s anemia. Over the past 60 years, the foundation has worked to help people diagnosed with Cooley’s anemia.

CAF funds medical research through its fellowship and research grant programs. To be considered for the medical research funding program, applicants must conduct their research at nonprofit laboratories and involve direct patient interactions or directly-collected patient data.

CAF also requires that the appropriate human research approvals have been secured before the project begins. Special consideration is given to clinical trials focused on curing Cooley’s anemia through cell and gene therapy. In 2016, CAF awarded more than $200,000 to fund one clinical research grant and five research fellowships.

Avi Polischuk is a construction project expert and owner of R&S United Services, an accomplished mechanical contractor serving the New York region. A member of the Mechanical Contractors Association, Avi Polischuk has managed over $100 million in projects and has been involved in high profile projects, including the Leonard Tribeca luxury high rise tower in New York City.

Located at 56 Leonard Street, the Leonard Tribeca luxury high rise tower is one of the most architecturally celebrated buildings in New York City. Designed by internationally renowned architect Herzog & De Meuron and the design engineering firm Consentini Associates, the tower filled with luxury condominiums rises over 800 feet tall and features 700,000 square feet of space.

R&S United Services was awarded the Leonard Tribeca project in August of 2012 through a competitive process. The firm worked with the construction managers and designers over a six-month period to propose innovative engineering solutions to improve the final building. In addition to designing a state of the art chilled water plant to reduce the HVAC footprint, R&S also decreased the required space for HVAC systems to provide additional real estate space to the building owners.

Commercial HVAC Maintenance Important in Commercial Real Estate

After graduating with his degree in engineering from George Washington University, Avi Polischuk became the owner of R&S United Services, an Amityville, Long Island-based HVAC systems provider for clients in the New York metro area. When Avi Polischuk and the team at R&S United Services design and construct HVAC systems for clients, they are also able to offer longstanding maintenance and service contracts to help keep the equipment running smoothly.

For commercial and multi-use building owners, preventive HVAC maintenance is a crucial component of efficient operations. Tenants who are satisfied by the management of the property are more likely to renew a lease, which decreases the odds of reduced cash flow via tenant turnover.

In order to maintain a healthy commercial HVAC system, building owners should schedule preseason checkups with a provider twice a year – once in the spring and once in the fall. Service providers may complete a number of general practices, including various system tests and the cleaning and lubrication of parts.

Those building owners who choose not to invest in routine HVAC maintenance may face higher costs of operation, as systems that work unchecked may not function at peak levels and consume greater amounts of energy. Additionally, commercial real estate professionals who invest in regular HVAC maintenance extend the life of the system and require part replacement less frequently.

As the owner of R&S United Services, Avi Polischuk focuses on providing clients with engineering solutions for projects related to HVAC design. Through R&S United Services, Avi Polischuk also donates to charities like the United Service Organization (USO).

The USO is committed to the support of servicemen and women in the United States military. Equipped to adapt to the changing needs of service members and their families around the world, the USO sponsors many programs that help military personnel connect to loved ones while abroad, find financial support, or even find employment after retirement from service.

Those who are interested in contributing to the mission of the USO can do so through any of several methods. Those who want to become actively involved in the organization may sign up as volunteers to greet soldiers at homecomings, work special events, or cover a front desk at a USO office for a few hours each week. Opportunities to participate in fundraisers or sponsored races are also routinely available to patrons of the USO.

A wide range of ways to make charitable donations to the USO include planned giving, corporate partnerships, and individual contributions. Potential donors can learn more about each method of contribution on the official USO website.

Energy Efficient Construction Guide – Sealing Building Joints

A mechanical engineer trained at The George Washington University, Avi Polischuk is the owner of R&S United Services, a New York mechanical engineering and contracting firm. Deeply interested in energy-efficient construction, Avi Polischuk strives to make the firm’s projects as green as possible.

One of the most basic rules of green construction is sealing all of the joints in the shell of a building. Too often, contractors pay a premium for insulated walls and ceilings without sealing joints, thus permitting air to flow around and even into the insulated rooms.

Both drywall-to-wood and wood-to-wood joints need to be sealed because the materials cannot be joined in an airtight manner. Typical sealing materials include caulks, films, foams, and gaskets. Air leakage pathway maps are available online to help construction professionals identify the best sealing strategies. Air-sealing products should be durable since buildings move in response to moisture, temperature, and wind. Gaskets are often better than caulks and foams because they are more amenable to movement. Other materials can rip and introduce airflow. Exterior films tend to be difficult to install and have a short lifespan, but interior films can prove especially helpful in cold climates.
